Robot Boy surprised us last week by bringing us The Cat in the Hat for a bedtime story, and then reading it himself. I knew he could read, but he didn't want to read to me and I wasn't going to insist, since he's four. Turns out that I was asking him to read me BOB books, because I thought that was where he was, but he finds Dr. Seuss much more inspiring.
Now he wants to read to me all of the time. Last night and tonight he read me Ten Apples Up On Top, I think that's his current favorite. He also loved reading You Read to Me, I'll Read to You. It's designed for two people to read together and the rhymes can be pretty silly. We both enjoyed it.
Learning to read is such an exciting time and I cherish those first attempts at reading and then the progression through BOB books, Seuss books, Frog and Toad, and then chapter books I've had with each of the kids. Reading has always been a huge part of my life and something I really wanted to share with my kids.
Today, Tiger was reading one of his books about the presidents while eating lunch, Bunny was stretched out on her bed engrossed in a new Magic Treehouse book during quiet time, and then at bedtime Robot Boy asked "Can I read to you, Mom?"
What could be better?!
